New York Alert: Kavanagh’s .50 Cal Ban Is Just the Beginning

Tue, Jan 13, 2026

Albany’s legislative session is officially underway — and Kathy Hochul wasted zero time making her intentions clear.

In her very first press conference of the year, Hochul openly called for more gun control. Of course she did. Hochul is a tyrant, and she wants to disarm the entire citizen population.

And one of the top bills Hochul wants to pass is S. 4277.

This bill is being sold as a ban on .50-caliber rifles.

But that’s not all it is.

S. 4277 is a big-bore hunting rifle banwritten so broadly that it can easily be expanded to cover common and widely used calibers like .338 Lapua, .308 Win Mag, .30-06and more.

This is not an accident.

This is exactly how gun control always works in Albany.

First, Democrats claim they’re only targeting a “special” firearm. Then they quietly expand it through a floor amendment.

And now that session is underway and Hochul has fired the opening shot, there’s no doubt what’s coming next.

Albany Democrats are coming after hunters.

For years, some hunters looked the other way while Albany banned magazines, AR-15s, or other firearms they didn’t personally own.

“This doesn’t affect me.”
“That’s not my kind of gun.”
“I just hunt.”

Those excuses are officially dead.

We ALL need to oppose this bill, or this is what will happen:

— Ban or force registration of so-called “big bore” rifles
— Set the precedent for banning additional calibers next
— Force registration of rifles already in circulation

Like every other gun control bill pushed by Hochul and Albany Democrats, this has nothing to do with public safety.

That’s why we’re sounding the alarm now.

Your signed petition sends a clear message to Albany: gun owners are organized, engaged, and watching every vote.

And any politician in a swing district who backs this bill will pay for it at election time.

One more thing.

After you sign your petition, please chip in $20 or $30 so we can use it to warn more gun owners about this threat.

In a state like New York, we don’t get second chances.

We fight early and hard — or we lose.

Thank you for standing with us.

For New York State,

Aaron Dorr
Executive Director
NYS Firearms Association

P.S. Session is underway, Hochul has already demanded more gun control, and S.4277 is live. This bill starts with .50-cal hunting rifles, but it won’t stop there.

Sign the petition now and make it clear that any politician who backs this bill will pay for it at election time.
